Rust-Oleum Professional High Performance Enamel Spray Paint
Every few years, we remove and disassemble our front steel security door and sidelights. We remove the rust, scrape paint flakes off, and clean.We use spray paint as it makes for a better job than using a brush.This year, we used 4 cans of Rust-Oleum's Professional High Performance Enamel.
Pros:
- Paint appears to be of high quality.
- If it's in the 70's or up (and not humid), the paint dries to the touch in less than 15 minutes, and can be re-coated in an hour.I waited up to a full day between coats though, so the paint would be fully dry.
- The spray pattern is excellent.The fine mist makes it easy to apply a smooth finish.
Cons:
- The 3/8" diameter red spray button [with sharp edges] is very uncomfortable if you have a large painting job.For small jobs it's OK, but otherwise it doesn't take long for your fingertip to hurt.(Alternating between index finger and thumb helps.)We did another spray job using Valspar brand paint; their spray button is twice as large and is contoured to fit a fingertip.
- After using a full can, there was a white "fog" of paint mist floating in the air in much of the garage. (The fog is the color of the paint.)After 4 cans of spraying, the entire double garage floor was covered with a fine white [paint] dust.We had to mop the floor. Use an exhaust fan while painting if you have one!
Other:
- As with any spray paint, use a respirator while painting; not a cheap dust mask.You really don't want to breathe that toxic fog.If you wear glasses, use goggles to keep paint mist off the lenses.
- Paint outside, in a garage, a barn, etc., unless the job is very small.Besides the paint mist settling throughout the room, the chemical stench after using this stuff is overpowering.

It's a nice addition to the Barracuda chuck.It comes with two different height "pins" that you can screw in.My only complaint is that the rubber/plastic covering the pins is a bit hard and not very sticky.I was expecting something a bit softer with more grab.I've only used it a couple of times to try to fix up some out of round bowls and each time, I've had a catch and the bowl goes flying out...Guess I need to work on my technique.
